What are MS CleSep™ hollow fiber filters

MS CleSep™ hollow fiber filters, which is a membrane filter composed of multiple groups of parallel hollow fiber membranes and generally be divided into ultrafiltration (1-1000kD) and microfiltration (0.1-1.0um).

According to the flow direction of the liquid, filtration can be divided into normal flow filtration (NFF) and tangential flow filtration (TFF). Hollow fiber filter is tangential flow filtration (TFF).

Why choose hollow fiber filters

Hollow fiber filters applications can cover many segments and process stages in biologics and pharmaceutical processes, including:

Perfusion culture of cells

Hollow fiber culture of adherent cells

Recovery and washing of cells and organisms Fermentation broth, clarification of cell lysates

Protein/antibody/virus/vaccine purification, concentration

Virus, virus-like particles, virus vector concentration

Nanomaterials, latex particles fractionation and concentration

Liposome rinsing, fluid exchange and concentration

Natural product isolation

Cell (protein) retention devices: 50kD, 0.22um, 0.45um

High loading density to meet amplified flow rate and filtration volume requirements (1T/unit)

Clarification filtration: 0.45um, 0.65(+)um

Purification: Concentration (UF) and Drainage (DF)

Principles for selecting membrane pore size of Hollow Fiber Filter

Permeation mode: The membrane pore size is at least 5-10 times that of the target molecule. For example, if a BSA solution is required to remove impurities, a membrane of 300kD or above is recommended;

Retention mode: The membrane pore size is 1/3 - 1/5 of the target molecular weight. For example, for monoclonal antibody (150kD) concentration, it is recommended to use a 30kD or 50kD membrane;

How to use a hollow fiber membrane filter?

Module Preparation

For lab and pilot applications, you will need a pump, a feed tank, a permeate collection tank, pressure gauges and valves and suitable tubing and connectors.

Rinse out glycerine with DI water

Drain module and perform module integrity test.

Note: If sanitization is necessary, use NaOH solution as a disinfectant.

Module Integrity Test

All hollow fiber modules are integrity tested before shipment. However, we highly recommends an integrity test before use.

Cleaning after Use

The hollow fiber modules must be cleaned before storage and reused by flushing with buffer or DI water, and then washed with appropriate sanitizing agent.
