Introduction

Membrane Solutions manufactures our own PTFE flat sheet membrane material. We use our high-quality PTFE material to create our membrane elements which are then installed into our modules for use in MBR systems and packages worldwide. In typical MBR processes, the assembled MBR systems or units are immersed directly into the biological tank or side stream tank. These configurations eliminate the need for secondary clarification and/or Tertiary filters normally required on a conventional activated sludge wastewater treatment plant. The higher permeate (effluent) water quality allows for all possible discharge or reuse options in the Industrial, Municipal and Developer water sectors. Compared to conventional activated sludge water treatment processes, flat sheet MBR systems require fewer unit processes, and operate with a much higher MLSS, allowing for increased performance with an overall footprint ¼ to 1/3 the size required by Conventional Activated Sludge Treatment plants. This overall size difference gives the MBR a huge savings due to the use of significantly less land which for a developer allows for the use of this land for their commercial or residential units. The cost of related civil work is also less and existing plants can benefit with retrofit allowing for greater flows without adding new tanks or requiring more land.

MBR System Features

  • Simple operation and stable process less susceptible to upset
  • High-performance PTFE flat sheet type membrane
  • Air Scour Diffusers are built into the bottom of the membrane module
  • Membrane modules are easily moved and installed
  • Modular design
  • Minimized Civil work on site
  • Highest level of nutrient removal for the best permeate/Effluent quality
  • The most discharge options allowed including reuse of permeate/effluent
  • Lower operation pressure, and easy cleaning equals low cost of operation
  • In-situ cleaning with long periods between cleaning cycles
  • No back pulsing and associated equipment and piping required

MBR Process

The above flow diagram is meant to depict a common MBR configuration. An MBR system can be design to meet any configuration required to meet local discharge limits for nutrients. Any conventional plant in operation can also be converted to an MBR system with minimal changes ompared to adding an entirely new conventional treatment train. The above configuration does show WAS line RAS line or those pumping configuration. It also does not show the blowers or their respective air lines to the Fine Bubble diffuser grid or the membrane air scour diffuser.

Applications

  • High turbidity water treatment for industrial or municipal wastewater
  • Biological Nutrient Removal & Enhanced Nutrient Removal
  • Food & Beverage wastewater treatment
  • Landfill Leachate
  • Pharmaceuticals waste water
  • Separation of Biochemical Products and Fermentation Products
  • Purification of Condiment & Beverage
